Where is the video that will help make it faster? Thanks!

Hi Andy
First see the video we posted here. How to configure the camera with your router. You will need to assigne a port and do a port forwarding inside your router. Then you can use applications such as tinycam monitor. They are others. I personaly find this one solid.

I purchased 2 units to add to my existing mydlink account, however, when it goes to try to bind the new device to my existing account, i get an error that the ‘binding failed – the device is not in the same region as your account’ – how can this be corrected?? I’m not interested in using another service – just the one that I already use.

Andy, you can’t with Mydlink. I’m assuming you are using your mobile phone to monitor your camera with the Dlink app. I’d like to show you a safer and faster way. Where your video feed will not Pass–through a server in an unknown location, which can possibly be compromise. I would be happy to guide you trough the steps. Once you use it and see performance , I bet you will convert all your existing DLink. Message us in the contact tab and let us know a good time to contact you. Other options would be to return them for a refund. That is also fine.

On the face of it, the camera is good for its capabilities and for the price. After purchasing three units, the issue I have is the dependability once configured and online. The firmware upgrade to version 1.3 did nothing to improve the stability issue. The only way to get the camera back is to power cycle it – if the camera is local that is less of an issue but once installed in a remote location, power cycling occasionally essentially defeats the concept of a security device.

I have other linux based wireless cameras that have 100% uptime but they lack the remote control capabilities of the 5020.

    (verified owner):

Update from yesterday. One of the three DCS-5020L units was failing within a few minutes after power cycling. After about the fifth time I tried a bench power supply which led me to substitute the “wall wart” with a transformer / rectifier type power supply. Conclusion: the capacitor type power supply design is suspect with these units. My suspicion is the range of current required by this particular camera unit exceeds the available regulated range of the power cube.

These actually work with MyDlink cloud but not the one you have already set up in this hemisphere. There are at least three different DLink cloud networks and the one your product uses is dependent on the hardware and they are not portable. These use the Asian cloud network so using the regular 5020L setup utility from the US MyDlink cloud went as normal until I went to register the camera to it then things slowed down as the comms had to go to Asia and back and required my setting up a whole new MyDlink account with a different email address. It works perfectly but it is slow so I recommend that you use a third party app as is recommended here and avoid Dlinks cloud.

Oh and dont call Dlink, they will not be able to port the units over, they are asked all the time by multinational businessmen and international travelers who want to buy a bunch here and take them there and have them work the same. The first tech support person will spend lots of time figuring out what you have then transfer you to a network specialist who knew all along and he will say no.

Enjoy the low price but know what you have.

    :

These are good cameras and at a very good price. A little bit of networking savvy will help you tremendously getting a quick installation. There are several wizards that should help the not so technically inclined. I had no problems setting them up, I went right to the browser based configuration screens and went through them. Everything functioned as I expected. They have been performing quite well and I am very happy. This vendor shipped promptly and everything arrived safe and sound. Oh these cameras were used to build out my home video security system. My system is a roll your own and these cameras were used for interior monitoring.

Another solution. These work great with the Dlink 202L DVR!
