Product Description

X-Adapter Rev:4 Breakout Board Adapter

This breakout board adapter features a built-in LED voltmeter and 100 amps rated power output. It can power Bitcoin Miners such the Avalon A6, A4, Antminer S3, S1, S5, S7 and/or any other 12volt devices like RC hobby and drones.

Listing is for  the X Adapter Rev:4 only, nothing else included.

Meant to be used with high quality two wire PCIe cables.

Combined with the quality of an HP server power supply, the X-Adapter REV4 was made to withstand harsh environments 24/7.

Why the X adapter ?

Power supplies capable of 1200 watts output can sell for hundreds of dollars. While all are third party names and often low quality made in China, server accessory excess allows the market to acquire original TOP QUALITY power supplies at a fraction of the cost. The problem with server power supplies are their proprietary connectors. The X adapter solves this problem and allows the power supply to be used for other applications such as Bitcoin miners, RC hobby, drones.

Do the cables come with this?

Not trying to be nitpicky–just seeking answers–I was just told in another product discussion that 16awg was the largest wires that would fit in these plugs.

Also, this says to be used with 2-wire cables, but the picture above and my Avalon 6 has 4-wire cables.

Lastly, does the 741 require 4- or 6-wire cables?

Thank you in advance. I look forward to upgrading through your company.

Here we have a 6pin PCIE populated with only two wires. The wire are 14AWG, although two 14AWG fits in 6pin/connector. If more then two would be use it would too tight. This older setup were use a few years ago on Antminer S3 and S5. I do not recommended this setup with current miner and never use on GPU

How many wires can you connect to this? And can you use one wire (with a 6-pin [or 8-pin] to dual 6+2pin splitter) to power one 1070 and it’s corresponding riser?

Yes, this breakout board has the save state feature.

Any ideas on why I have to power-cycle this breakout board when I randomly find my Avalon6 not hashing? It doesn’t seem to be saving its state for me.

Thanks & looking forward to buying one of your 741s in the near future.

When a power cycle is required, do the LED’s on the breakout board indicate that the power supply is on and providing power? The next time you need to power cycle the unit, try using a multi meter to see if the pcie ports on the breakout board is still providing voltage. Also are you noticing any error codes in the miner status page while the unit is powered on and hashing? You can also try reflashing the raspberry pi firmware or replacing the AUC2 controller to see if it resolves the issue.

All good questions. I will take note the next time it happens.

Thankfully, I haven’t encountered this shutting off issue since switching to a 220v/30a power source. If it does happen again, I’ll be sure to break out the multi-meter and check things out.

Will this work with a 7001515-J100 (Z1100P-00)? I know the X6B, X7B, X11 will work and I believe those are compatible with the DPS-1200FB.

No, they are not. We have our full compatibility list here. The PSU you mentioned is compatible with X6B, X7B, X11, and X12. Those 4 breakout boards were designed to be compatible with two different power bar slot pin layouts.

Could you offer info on what the amperage rating is on the individual screw terminals?

Support
3 years 4 months ago

The plastic covers might seem like these are separated cells but I’m positive this is two single bar; Positive and negative. We will break one apart Monday just to confirm. I’ll update pictures here to follow up. If this helps… I personally powered two Antminer S5, consuming approx 1100watts using 16AWG cables at 12volts 24/7 for months. While things were hot they did perform well. This was with the breakout board fully populated.

Customer
mclevelandminer

What is the current rating for each individual output?

Support
2 years 2 months ago

This is not the exact answer you want but it is correct. the power limit of any electric cable is base on its size. Here we have 16AWG stranded copper and they are three pairs per PCI-E cable. The extra 2pin are ground. Found the amp rating of 16AWG wires “Chassis rating” multiply the amp rating x 12volt = Watt then multiply by 3 pair. (Amp_Rating X 12) X 3 = Maximum watt per PCIe cable. To be on the safe side of things I would use only 80% of the result so X 0.8

theoretically, you can use this board to power a whole desktop system. just need a pair of wire for a pico psu and 3 pairs of wire for a gpu.

is this assumption correct?

Works like a charm. Got the package on time and in perfect condition. I’m commenting/reviewing this product not after i got but after using it for abt 30+ days. Being fairly new to mining….I’ve had couple of questions setting it up, all my questions and concerns answered. This is the type of service you would always expect. Thanks guys…keep rocking.

Can’t beat this adapter for the cost.. Bought 4 of them!

Question,, Is there documentation as to how to adjust the output voltage? Happy to change SMT parts or wire a potentiometer if info is available. Otherwise I’ll figure it out.

    mark

    • Albert

Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the voltage from our breakout board. There is a way to adjust the voltage from within the power supply itself but this requires opening the psu. Here is a video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwHlO8LHEtw
You will want to skip to about 10 minutes in to get to the section where he demonstrates how to adjust the voltage.

Please note that by opening up the power supply you will be voiding any valid warranty remaining on your PSU.

Works great for my Holiday LED power lighting to power up 1584 RGB Pixels from Ray Wu, this basically powered my whole entire MegaTree that is 23 feet tall (counting the 180 node star topper).
I wish I can attach pictures to this review to show that this breakout board fits right in the Cable Guard CG-1500 box with a right angle power plug. Works great to power up the HP Server PSU power supply in a slim profile at 900watts.
Using the breakout board combined with the Pixel Controller Falcon F16 receiver board + F8 Distro (or even multiple) is easy, they are all screw terminals, and using a fused 12awg line, actually works good, takes a bit to wiggle into the connection on the breakout board but it works.
Simple design but works great with a voltage LED display and a power switch button is intuitive for on the spot testing of the seasonal erected Megatree, no need to keep pulling the power plug from the PSU or the outlet.
I bought 4 of these before PM went out of stock, but I like to show support for this specific breakout board because it will start to have a very nice presence in the DIY Holiday lighting community, and this community is between the USA and Australia. Buying 4 of these should allow me to pull through the entire season with no hiccups once I use all 4 breakout boards to power EVERYTHING in my show ( MegaTree, Props in the yard, entire house, and driveway arches).

My review may show that I’m not a verified owner, that was because I did not opt to make an account to do reviews when I ordered on [Order #23485] (10/30/2018), but definitely I did purchase from this website. Checkout was really easy which is always a good experience.

While it functions perfectly, I wish it were a little more robust. The board itself is rather thin and the plexi-isolator is just as fragile. I ordered two a day apart. One arrived perfectly, the other arrived with the plexi broken on one end. Not critical, but not good. Should definitely be mounted/secured in a project box or case. Otherwise, it’s FANTASTIC!!! Plenty of 12v terminals. If you can make one of these with 4x binding posts (2x POS & 2x NEG) instead of the terminal strips, I’d easily pay double!!!
