Hi, is this breakout board compatible also with a HP 1200w platinum server psu like the one you sale?

Support
2 years 5 months ago

Yes, it is but 1000watt may exceed the board capacity, be careful.

How many drives does this breakout board support with the optional/included 750W PSU?

Support
2 years 5 months ago

It will depend on the type of HDD you are using. A 10k RPM HDD will sure use more power than an SSD drive. We tested it (20) 7200rpm HDD successfully. We invite customers to push the limit to failure, We need the Data. We will replace it for free. This board is in its beginning stages and most likely will be improved over time.

Hi hope you will add on the next version (like on the ZSX) the possibility to power the motherboard and processor 👍

Is jt possible to power a couple of fans from the board aswell as the hard drives?

Support
2 years 13 days ago

This is a highly proprietary board. Designed for one purpose, to power HDD or SSD SATA devices. The board will push both 5volts on the RED and 12Volts on the yellow. Fans, usually at 95% of the case only use 12 volts

Love it! Any chance you could make one with motherboard connection as well?

I’m trying to connect one of these units with a ZSX breakout board via the interconnect cable and when i switch one on the other shuts off, is it possible to use these two boards together?

Support
1 year 11 months ago

Yes they can be connected using the interconnect cable ONLY. 1) Unplug the interconnect cable 2) power off everything 3) connect the cable and now they will be sync, turn on one and the other will follow

Noob/dumb question. The 4 pin molex next to the fan plugs on the left, can i use that with a pcie riser to power a SaS expander? (or is there an easier way to do it)

(this is a cool product, thanks for supporting HDD mining/farming)

Support
1 year 4 months ago

This 4pin Molex is for sensing only. In the event, you would use an ATX PSU to turn the boar on / off. To be synced with an ATX. If you power anything with this 4pin Molex you will most likely KILL the board

Is there anyone tested out the maximum HDD capacity for this board? Is it 50+? Since some ATX PSUs can’t boot with more than 20 HDDs. That’s why I am asking.

Support
1 year 2 months ago

It really depends on the type of HDD & RPM. With 7200RPM we tested 35HDD

How you sell a power supply without a power cord, i do not understand. I have probably purchased over 100 psu’s in my time and this is the first time it did not include a power cord. Very disappointed with your service (lack of service that is…)

    • Joseph g (store manager)

Within the industries of mining or IT server, we cannot know if the PSU unit will be used in the USA, UK, NZ, HK, etc. Will it be used on 200-240V, 277V, 100V, or American standard 110/120V? Will it be plugged into a wall outlet or a PDU unit? If a PDU unit, which type? They are four kinds of plugs available on it? Are there any specific local or government laws at the destination address related to PSUs, PDUs, and power cords?

Each of the countries we ship to use different types of outlet receptacles and so we simply don’t include power cords. That said, we do state in our listing exactly what is included in these kits and the type of power cord required. Most of the PSUs will require a C13 power cord, a standard computer power cord that you can source locally. We offer power cords separately here: https://www.parallelminer.com/product-tag/power-cord/

    Trunkneck

Just a guess, but maybe look at the address and include the standard plug for that nation/area?

    • Joseph g (store manager)

That still not going to tell us if the customer is going to use a PDU Unit or plug this straight into a wall outlet! Again PDU has four kinds/types of plugs on them. We need to remain efficient. Besides, most none commercial miner have these power cords somewhere in their drawers. They are just plain old Desktop computer power cords. We appreciate your reply and suggestion.

This was the perfect solution to my HDD mining operation until the last month. I’ve been using one since about May 2022 and now it is unusable. It will power up the drives but appears to randomly power cycle the drives. In Windows I see the drives constantly disconnect and reconnect. The power on cycle counts are now over +2500 for all of my 16 drives connected to this board. I’ve swapped out PSU and the SAS expander card as an initial troubleshooting step. Only remaining item is the board and I can’t invest any more money into this product if it is the same version. Breakout board is connected to a battery backup solution. I’ve read some forum posts that report similar issues after a few months and speculation is a better buck converter would help. I’ve no idea what that is but reporting on what I’ve heard as a possible improvement.

These boards would be perfect if I wish they had a longer warranty or some R&D went into them to increase their life.

The product is great but it has a high failure rate

  14. 1 out of 5

    Devin McGarry (verified owner)

I’ve had 9 of these starting from 08/19/2022 (I bought a couple every month or two ), of which 3 are still alive today. This is more than 50% failure rate over 6months.
    1 arc-ed and fried a pin
3 wont power on, something around the 12v to 5v conversion doesn’t work anymore(orange light, no blue)
1 infinite power cycle on hard drive issue. Which then worked for a few days and then stopped powering on.

So does the breakout board work amazingly for the use case of chia, YES! Will the breakout board live past 6months NO!
