Product Description

GPU Mining Motherboard Adapter: PCIe 6pin to Molex 4pin Female Cable - 12V only

Motherboards with support for a high quantity of GPU for mining will require additional power on the motherboard through 2x 4-pin Molex ports. Our 6-pin to Molex 4-pin female is an inexpensive and simple solution to get power to these Molex ports on the motherboard if you are not using an ATX power supply. The principal use is to convert riser Molex 4pin power to be used directly on PCIe 6pin power connectors.

This cable can be paired with a Molex splitter to directly power multiple Molex ports on your motherboard.

As pictured, the 5V wires are not included; server power supplies can only push 12V.

how many risers could be powered from 1x 6-pin plug? can I chain the molex together to power 2-3 risers from 1 cable? and would it matter if they were daisy-chained or all spawned from the 6-pin directly?

Support
6 years 3 months ago

Many … I cannot tell you the exact amount. It depends on your setup. Try as many as you can until two possibility 1) the wire are getting warm or 2) You experience some failure with the GPUs mining

so it seems that powered risers don’t even use the 5v line? Is that a good assumption? or will they just pull extra power from the 12v to make up any difference?

Support
6 years 3 months ago

Its correct they do not use the 5v . Originally they use molex or sata plug which carry both 12v and 5v but only the 12v were use

This is not true, at least for my risers. Now I have to get new ones. My risers are 4-pin molex and I tried to use the 6-pin to 4-pin converter (6 pin from PSU, 4 pin on riser). Perhaps it would work if the riser had the 6 pin and you were trying to power from 4 pin, but unfortunately I just found out that my risers use the 5v power. Apparently from what I’ve read, risers with the 6-pin input have 2 regulators to provide their own 5v/3.3v requirements from the 12v, but any that have just the 4 pin molex require the 5v line from the PSU. M goal was to not use up so many ports on the breakout board just to power risers, but alas it has ended up costing me both time and money. Perhaps you can design a breakout board that takes the risers into account a little better?

Can this be used to power the molex adapter in mother board (b250 mining expert)?

Support
6 years 1 month ago

I’m assuming you are referring to the 4pin Molex plug on the B250. In that case – No – its should not be use because this adapter only provide 12volts. A true Molex 4pins is both 5Volts and 12Volts. What you need to do is split the 4pin Molex for the ATX Power suply or Pico board using this >> https://www.parallelminer.com/product/4pins-molex-y-splitter-cable-adapter-6-inch-long-highest-quality-cables/

Would this work to supply AUX_PWR (Molex connector on MB) for Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ motherboard? No idea if it draws anything from the 5V line.

How many amps of power can this safely provide? Can it power a molex fan controller that powers server fans?

Support
2 years 7 months ago

the power limit of any electric cable is base on its size. Here we have 16AWG stranded copper and they are three pairs per PCI-E cable. The extra 2pin are ground. Found the amp rating of 16AWG wires “Chassis rating” multiply the amp rating x 12volt = Watt then multiply by 3 pair. (Amp_Rating X 12) X 3 = Maximum watt per PCIe cable. To be on the safe side of things I would use only 80% of the result so X 0.80.

Can I use this cable to HDD with converted sata cables?
I have chia farming, so I need a power cable for many HDD.

Support

Your HDD also needs 5votls! That cable will only give you 12

Support

We have something coming for Chia that will allow you to power up to 40HDD with a 750watt PSU. We should have this by month end

Is this the correct cable to power the 4-pin molex on the H110M-BTC motherboard with the ZSX breakout board?

Support
2 years 6 months ago

This will allow you to power the 4pin Molex 12volt from the breakout board 6pin PCI-3 Plug. We have seen a version of the H110 Mboard sensing the 5volts legs to detect the presence of power and report at the Bios.

I have the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+, which will not boot unless it detects 5v from both of the riser molex ports. Will two of these cables work to power the two molex ports from the ZSX?

Support
2 years 5 months ago

We’ve experienced that version before. You are referring to the Molex 4pin on the motherboard. The board is looking for both 5volts and 12 volts. The cable here will only provide 12volt. If you are using a ZSX board to power that H110, simply split the SATA cable included with this cable https://www.parallelminer.com/product/4pins-molex-y-splitter-cable-adapter-6-inch-long-highest-quality-cables/

Thanks for the reply. Since posting the question I solved my problem by upgrading the bios. The latest ASRock H110 bios (1.6) will boot with the two molex ports powered by PCIe, and so far is running well. I had tried splitting the SATA cable as you mentioned, but had riser card errors that seemed related to power. I just bought a bunch of your PCIe to molex cables to replace the temporary ones on my rig now.

Hi Christopher, thank you for the update. Now we know why some did sense 5v and others did not. Solution noted

Is this the cable needed to connect a X11 breakout board to an ATX power supply so that when the ATX PSU is powered on the X11 (and attached server PSU) will power on (or off) accordingly?
TY

Support
2 years 5 months ago

You do not need any cable for that! First power everything off. On your ATX PSU, you have a Large Molex 4pin power to power a Hard Drive. Connect that into the X11 Molex connector. Now start your ATX PSU and watch the X11 power up also. Now they are sync.

Perfect cable for M.2 pcie adapters that require molex power. I spent hours looking for this kind of cable on ebay and many other sites, but of course parallel miner has them. For people that still need molex connections after moving from an ATX to just a PSU with the ZSX breakout board, this is a must have.

Good quality cable, ideal for additional power through molex connectors but be aware that as you can see this cable only supply 12V signal, there is not 5V signal. Check you devices prior to plug them to be sure that they will work only with the 12V signal and they do not require the 5V signal too.

The wire I received seemed a little cheaply made and pins wiggled around a little more then normal. Used this for powering the 2 molex plugs on a h110 pro btc+ and wouldn’t work, ended up having to run an atx power supply anyways just to run the 2 molex cables which defeated the purpose of using the ZSX-AMP breakout board.
