Got something to discuss?

3 years 6 months ago

I’m a little concerned about the fork-to-6+2 cable being plugged into a Y-cable 6-to-dual-6+2. Can the cables with the forks at the ends deliver a full 300 Watts through them for the full potential of the dual 6+2 Y cables?

3 years 6 months ago

Yes, the 16AWG cables are capable of 12 amps and 400 watts.

1 year 7 months ago

I wonder why the Y-cable only use 18awg despite having two 8-pin connectors, while the fork to 6+2pin use 16awg here.

3 years 6 months ago

Please note that the psu only provides a max of 1000w of power. If the device you are trying to power up requires 300w of power, you would be able to power up 3 of those units with this psu kit using only 1 splitter cable. 2 units being powered by single 6-pin cables and the 3rd unit powered via splitter.

Do this item have power switch?
Or, if PSU connect to electrical outlet, does it start automatically?

On image 6 I can see a jumper what does it do exactly or what sort of function does it enable?

2 years 11 months ago

Originally the jumper triggers an on/off. However, since we’ve removed a capacitor “orange” on the board it’s no longer active. The capacitor was removed because of its high failure rate.

I have five units from Cointerra that all use this power supply and card combination.

One Terraminer IV we bought a month too late, so it has been parked in storage but ran as expected when placed back in the box, and four Terraminer II that are still brand new in the box that I just acquired, none of which had ever been plugged in before.

Both “Power Breakout Cards” on the Terraminer IV flared into flame when I put power to the unit for the first time in years here a while back, so I went looking for parts and got four full units. The Terraminer II, straight out of the box, never having been plugged in, did the same.

In your reply to Lord_jon25, are you referring to C3, the larger “orange” cap I see in the close-up in the product pictures?

If so, are the units being offered for sale without that component, so the actual shipped units will not have that part that can fry so easily?

1 year 6 months ago

Hi Barry, late reply sorry. Saw your contact message as well. Yes, exactly! At first, when we played with this PSU we quickly realized that capacitor was not able to handle the constant load at 95% any miner requires. It actually caught on fire most of the time within a few hours. We removed it and find the PSU to be a GEM afterward. The capacitor may play a valid role in powering normal computers.

Thank you, Joseph. I have worked with equipment my whole life and never had such a startling moment as when those flames came out the side of the grill. I was highly concerned I couldn’t find replacements. I will order as soon as the budget allows.

1 year 5 months ago

The units shipped work perfectly.

Is there any possibility that I can just remove that cap (C3) from the boards I still have that are new and undamaged?

I am great with such things but have no schematic to work from in order to know why it is even on the board in the first place.

1 year 11 months ago

where can i find a compatible motherboard cable?

1 year 7 months ago

I wonder why they wouldn’t make fork directly into 2 6+2pin, and we need Y-cable instead. Seems like extra step and maybe more power loss due to extra joints

Sooo, where are the instructions for this thing? Mine came in, and I’m finally ready to use it. But it’s just a power supply thing, some kind of board you plug into the back of it, and a bunch of cables. How do you connect the cables? This should come with a YouTube video link, or at least some instructions. If this doesn’t require instructions, nothing does.

1 year 3 months ago

While the PSU is unplugged, you put the fork spade cables on the breakout board’s terminal screw. You can squeeze the forks closed a little to help hold them in place while working.
Once all the cables you will use are attached to the terminal, you tighten the top screw to secure everything in place.
Repeat the above steps with the other terminal screw.
Attach the Y-splitter cables as necessary for your setup, then plug the PCIe cables into your device(s).
Plug in the PSU’s power cord to turn it on.

Thanks. Is there a negative and positive side where the screws are on the breakout board?

1 year 3 months ago

No, the positive and ground and split in the cables themselves. Yellow is positive and black is ground.

Can this power supply be used with another power supply in the same rig? If so, how could it be connected? Does it need to be connected?

1 year 15 days ago

Power-One’s proprietary breakout board does not have a feature to connect multiple PSUs together.

Absolute garbage of a product. DO NOT BUY. You will spend over an hour trying to attach the little forks onto to nut only to have them slip off as you tighten. Plan to need an entire team to hold these stupid things in place. Tried tightening down so many different ways that the forks broke apart. I now have a useless product I CAN NOT USE.

Hello Anthony, please fill in an RMA request we will take it back and issue a full refund. Thank you.

A bit fiddly to assemble, but because of the nature of the construction easily customizable. The other reviewer has a point though, fork style connectors are kind of the wrong choice. closed eyelets work much much better. That said they don’t need anything special, you can get the parts to change over the eyelets at any autoparts store. If the above person had any mechanical understanding and patience he would have realized it’s as simple as closing up the forked in just a bit so that they do not fall off during assembly.

The platinum rating appears to be no joke as well. Mine operated around 96%. So in that regaurd it excedes it’s rating.

I disagree whole heartedly with Anthony’s assesstment. Although I know how frustrating these things can be… JUST look at that price!

I couldn’t find that power board anywhere for any price, let alone a matched power supply for ONLY $27.20!

I bought two to test and they work fine.

What you do with all the extra wires is up to you, but having been an Electrician’ Mate in the US Navy in the 70’s, the son of scrap man, and a systems builder for the last 22 years, using these is a cake walk.

I rarely leave reviews, but this good review is well deserved, especially in light of the bashing above that I most certainly believe needs correcting.

Don’t blame “fumble fingers” on the product, please. Poly head was correct though, a different connector on the end would solve that and for the price of these units, one can surely afford to grab a small bag of closed ends, if they cannot master the ones that come pre attached. Plan your work and work your plan, includes how to wrangle the octopod created with all those wires.

I just hope I can buy a fair number of them while they still got stock.

Amazing deal. Slim profile and long cables. For anyone having trouble getting all of the under the washer, I’d suggest taping or soldering the flat side of 2 cables back-to-back, then you would only deal with wrangling 3 sets of connectors under the washer and they stack up better, keeping them from slipping out.

Only reason I don’t give this a 5 star is due to the wires having said ends to connect with the power supply. It is next to impossible to get all 5 of them connected at once. I did just put an eyelet connector on them and it solved the problem. This would be a very easy change for the manufacturer!
